Well a very old tradition starts
today, the modern Olympics started back in 1896 over a hundred years
ago but the games have a much longer history. The Olympics are more
than just a world wide sporting event, they signify an effort for
peaceful coexistence. The games give the countries of the world a
non-violent way of competing with each other.
The first written recorded record of
an Olympic game was back in 776 BC and it is believed that they had
been around for years before that, they went on every four years
until 393 AD, almost 1200 years. The original event was running and
the length was around 210 yards, and the first recorded Olympic
Champion was Coroebus.
Now we have a multitude of events and
are still adding more. The Olympic games have and are still evolving
into a great show of peace and unity for the human species.
Today is the Opening Ceremonies and
there is only one event in Archery held today but starting tomorrow
the games really get under way with around 16 events starting and
Soccer and Archery continuing.
